Cross-Country Moving Tips

Cross-Country Moving Tips

Moving cross-country is especially popular now in these days of COVID-19, while many people are relocating jobs or looking to get away from major cities. In this blog entry, the residential and commercial moving experts here at Noah’s Ark Moving and Storage will detail some of our top tips for easy cross-country moving!

Moving Checklists

Make sure to create a cross country packing and moving checklist. By following this list, you can ensure that you’re fully set to smoothly carry out the moving process. You can split up packing and loading tasks to different periods of the day to ensure that you can efficiently get everything done with minimal stress.

Logistical Planning

Contact your professional moving team in advance in order to get all the logistics of your planned move settled. Let them know an estimate of how many trucks and/or containers you may need for the move, the ideal time you want to move, and the pick-up and ultimate drop-off location.

Planning the Moving Date

Many people choose to move when school’s out of session and there’s no snow – making Summer a great choice. Between May and August seems to be the ideal time to move, but since so many people plan their moves for this time, you might be able to get a lower rate by planning a move during other months.

Throwing Things Away Pre-Packing

Before you pack everything for your cross-country move, go through your belongings and throw out or donate everything that you’ve been keeping hidden in storage that you might not need. This would be an ideal time to get rid of those old objects you’ve been hiding under the bed or keeping on top of your cabinets – meaning you’ll have less to pack and load onto the moving truck, hence, lowering your moving costs.

Plastic Wrap

Buy a couple rolls of professional mover’s plastic wrap. This is a fantastic item that makes it easy to wrap blankets around delicate furniture, equipment, and appliances, and to reduce the chances of liquid leaking outside of bottles or cleaning supplies.

Electronic Wiring Documentation

Before dismantling and packing electronic items like televisions or stereos, take a picture of the wired components of each device. By doing this you can more easily remember how to replug items in once you’re back at your new location.
