Essential Moving Safety Tips

Why It's Best to Move in Spring

In this blog post, the expert residential and commercial moving team here at Noah’s Ark Moving and Storage will detail some essential moving safety tips that can ensure that you have a pleasant, relaxed, and fully safe moving experience.

Truck Inspection

Ensure that the moving truck being used has recently undergone a full vehicle inspection. All components of the vehicle should be operating at full function. The most essential components that MUST be working properly before the move gets on the road is the truck’s lights, mirrors, tires, and full signaling components.

Safe Driving

Make sure that your moving truck drives at a safe distance from all other vehicles on the road. You want to make sure there’s double the amount of normal distance between the front and the back of the truck from vehicles in front and behind it than you’d want to implement with a normal sized sedan. This is because it takes slightly longer for trucks to brake. This gives you a safe amount of time to stop safely if the vehicle in front of you suddenly does so, as well as keeping the car behind you safe.

Weather Planning

Bad weather can sometimes complicate interstate and highway based moves, especially the hurricane weather that can happen during Summer and Winter snowstorms. If you anticipate horrible weather, it would be a good idea to plan your move for after it ends. If you’re driving in inclement weather, lower your speed, make sure that you use the windshield wipers, and ALWAYS maintain a safe distance between your vehicle and others around you, as mentioned above.

Essential Rest Breaks

If you’re undergoing a long distance move, don’t push yourself and make yourself crazy. Allow yourself to rest, eat, or even nap when you’re hungry and/or tired. We don’t recommend driving for more than 9 hours nonstop, and we recommend not skimping on break times – a half an hour is a reasonable amount of time. The most important thing is to check in with your own body, understand your needs, and take care of yourself. Here at Noah’s Ark Moving and Storage, the safety and pleasant experience of our customers during and after their moves is our ULTIMATE priority, and one we will always stand for.
