Moving Blanket FAQ

Here’s a guide to some common questions that we, the moving experts here at Noah’s Ark Moving and Storage, commonly receive regarding moving blankets.

Do I really need moving blankets?

Yes! If you’re moving any furniture, you need moving blankets. It’s the easiest way to keep furniture and other large items safe during the moving process.

Are moving blankets water resistant?

Yes, moving blankets are usually water resistant, but are not fully waterproof. If you want water resistant moving blankets, look for any with the word “poly” in their name.

Are moving blankets flammable?

Yes, they often are, but polyester moving blankets offer some flame resistance.

How do I properly use moving blankets?

Cover the top of each object with one or more moving blankets, and then use mover’s rubber bands or tape around the sides and bottom of the object to keep the blankets in place. Make sure all sides of the object are covered before loading it into the moving truck.

How many moving blankets will I need?

Can I wash moving blankets?

Yes, moving blankets can be washed – but should be done so according to manufacturer instructions, and dried over lines.

What are moving blankets made from?

Moving blankets are often made of a blend of cotton and polyester, but sometimes are made of microfiber, burlap, or wool.

What is the best size of moving blanket?

This depends on the size of the objects you need to move, but a popular choice is the standard large moving blanket of 72 inches by 8- inches – which can cover large items, and, of course, smaller ones as well.
