Decluttering Before Moving

By selling, donating, or recycling unwanted items, you can make money before moving, save packing time, and create a large amount of new storage space. Decluttering will help reduce a great deal of stress during the moving process, reducing the amount of items you need to transport, and making the unpacking process much simpler.

Moving Decluttering Tips

Start with the room with the most items. Sort out the largest items first like furniture and electronics, and then move to smaller items like clothing, toiletries, and books. Create a classification code to put items in different categories like must-haves, important valuables, items you don’t want, and items that are total junk. Mark down the must-have items as a form of a packing list, and carefully pack kthese away from other items. Donate outdated items like children’s toys, clothing that doesn’t fit, extraneous appliances, forgotten hobby tools, or decor you’re not a fan of.

Getting Rid of Items Before Moving

Try selling unwanted items online, placing them on eBay as far in advance as possible.  Remember not to price items too low – you might be surprised how fast they sell.
