We want to fill you in on our process for expert piano moving.  Some imperative materials you will need to move your piano are work gloves, plastic covers, fabric covers (preferably cotton) and heavy-duty dollies.  Here is a list of 8 tips for moving a piano:

1.       Remember that a piano is quite back-heavy and tips easily.  Be sure no one is standing behind the piano when you move it and try to keep it as leveled as possible so as to prevent damage from the piano tipping and falling.  For pianos with very thin fragile front legs like Spinets and consoles, you will want to tip back so as not to put excess pressure on the front legs, but make sure the piano does not tip too far and fall.
2.       Be sure to know where you will place your piano after it is relocated.  It is not a good idea to move your piano near more extreme climates like near a heater or air conditioning unit or where there are cold drafts.  This will obstruct the tuning of the piano.
3.       Noah’s Ark will send a team of about four movers, positioned two at each end of the piano or at each of the three legs, wearing work gloves to move your piano.
4.       Make the sure the lid is closed and locked. If it’s a baby grand or grand piano the top is removed for the duration of the move.
5.       Cover the piano with a protective plastic or fabric covering so as to prevent body damage during your piano move.
6.       If the piano is placed on the heavy-duty dolly the tuning should be somewhat preserved, but not always
7.       Move the piano slowly; there is no rush that’s worth the cost of damage to your piano.
8.       Keep hold of the piano as you are moving it and watch out for door jams and thresholds.
