Fine Art Relocation

Fine Art Relocation

Fine art can be extremely delicate and sensitive to its environment and handling methods. From sculpture to painting, each piece of art needs particular practices of transportation in order to ensure the integrity of its structure and content. The many important intricacies of fine art handling make it a distinct talent and profession. If you’re packing delicate fine art, here are a couple of tips to make the transportation safe.

Protective Layering

Wrap art in a preliminary layer of protective pallet wrap which creates an air-tight seal – cut a few holes in the wrap so the art can breath. Then add a layer of bubble wrap – making sure that the bubbles face out. Consider acquiring an inner cushion perfectly measured to accommodate your item called a “cavity pack” – this will make it much easier to repack, as there will not have to be any extra remeasuring of your item.

Secure Packing

Try investing in a high quality tape – most tape doesn’t hold too well during transportation, so this investment always pays off well for protection. Add tons of “Fragile” labels to your boxes as well – you want to make it plainly clear to anyone in contact with these boxes that they contain a delicate investment. Also, label your boxes with a photograph of their contents for easy disassemble and unpacking once they arrive at their destination. As an aesthetic tip, clean white boxes make it much easier to archive arrived work – as well as being professionally appropriate for shipping a high-investment good.
