Moving Day Fitness

Moving can be quite physically demanding. It can put strains on your back, shoulders, arms, and legs. However, it doesn’t need to. It really helps to start doing some pre-move training within the few weeks before your move. Here’s a guide to getting your body fit and prepared for you move, by the experts at Noah’s Ark.

Train, train, train

Start training a few weeks before your move by doing calisthenics, light weights, and cardio. The benefits, besides the physical benefits, will be in the flow of endorphins that helps reduce anxiety and stress.

Shoulders and Neck

These muscles work hard when you lift heavy objects or do repeated motions. To strengthen these areas, we recommend swimming, overhead presses, and side-raises. Try out a Barre class for specified focus.

Back and Core Strength

It’s always best to lift with your leg muscles rather than your back. To strengthen your core and back, try planking exercises for as long as you can handle. Or consider taking a pilates or Yoga class for really great results.

Arms

Try doing push ups, pull-ups, and weight curls to help stay balanced, and be able to have endurance to lift many heavy boxes.

Legs and Butt

For these areas, squats are your best best, as well as lunges or even running up the stairs. Just make sure that your knees are properly aligned and aren’t being applied with unnecessary stress in order to protect your joints.

Wrists and Hands

Make sure to regularly practice squeezing a stress ball, and stretching your wrists and hands in order to get it acquainted with the kind of repeated motion you will be performing during your move in a way that won’t stress out their tender tendons.

Entire Body

The most effective workouts exercise your entire body uniformly. Pilates and yoga classes, as mentioned earlier, are a fantastic bet – as well as other types of classes that you may want to opt for, depending on your particular desire and mood. These classes include kickboxing, Crossfit, spin, or Barre techniques – or even a fun dance based class like Zumba!
