Moving during the Holiday Season

Moving during the Holiday Season

Long distance – or even short distance – moves during the holiday season can be difficult due to the increased traffic on the roads and the cold and/or snowy weather. Here’s a guide to safely moving during the holiday season, as prepared by the moving experts here at Noah’s Ark Moving and Storage.

Changing Addresses

Since many people send out holiday cards to all of their friends and family during the holiday season, consolidate your efforts by combining your change-of-address notifications with your holiday cards. There’s a way to do so that’s very festive and welcoming, and you can even include an invitation for a going away party! For change of address notifications for entities like banks, make sure to let them know as early as possible. During the holiday season many business hours change, and there’s many days that businesses remain closed. You want to send your change of address notification as early as possible to ensure that the change is fully processed before businesses close for the holiday season.

Decorating Moving Materials

Instead of worrying about decorating your home with the typical Christmas decorations amidst your move, knowing that you will just have to pack up your decorations shortly, consider utilizing the boxes that are sure to be laying around your property in anticipation of your move. Buy holiday themed stickers or even markers and decorate all your moving boxes with holiday imagery and designs! You can even stack your boxes into a triangle shape and illustrate it like a Christmas tree! This is a way that you and your whole family can team together to celebrate decorating without adding to the typical stress of packing and moving – and when you arrive at your new location, you will be inherently bringing your decorations with you!

Proper Winter Gear

Make sure that for your move you have durable, sturdy, and waterproof snow boots that offer lots of traction. You want to prepare for the possibility of dealing with slippery surfaces as you load and unload up your truck. Make sure to research the weather conditions of your planned moving date, and ask your moving company how it might affect the shipping of your belongings. Make sure that your car’s tires are fully inflated, and the proper tire type for dealing with potentially skiddy roads. Dress in warm layers that are easy to remove, so that you can take off layers as you get sweaty during your move, and place them back on before you get chilled again.
