Moving Service FAQ

In this blog entry, the Tri-State area moving experts here at Noah’s Ark Moving and Storage will detail some more frequently asked questions that we get asked regarding our professional residential moving and NYC commercial moving services.

What’s the best possible time to move?

We recommend avoiding moving at the end of the Month, during the Summer, and during the holidays at the end of the year simply because this is the most popular time to move. However, Noah’s Ark Moving and Storage can accommodate any of your Tri-State area interstate or local moving needs at any time.

What’s a binding moving estimate?

A binding moving estimate guarantees that you won’t be required to pay any more than the price quoted in the moving estimate. If you decide you want to add more items to your moving shipment after signing the estimate, your moving company can provide you with a new binding estimate that includes these additional items, or alternatively change the original estimate to a non binding estimate. Keep in mind that movers can sometimes bill you for additional costs for unforeseen issues like stairs, parking permits and the like – but these charges legally cannot exceed more than 15% of the existing charges.

What’s a non binding moving estimate?

Non binding estimates provide customers with an estimate, generally accurate moving cost. The final amount paid will reflect the weight of all items moved, as well as any other types of fees that might be explained in the estimate. Legally, moving companies cannot ask you to pay more than 10% of the cost written in your non binding moving estimate.

How are moving costs determined?

Moving cost is determined based on a number of factors that may include, but are not limited to:

  • Extra moving assistance
  • Total weight of items before transport
  • Travel distance
  • Moving insurance coverage cost
  • Moving personnel
  • Hourly moving charges
  • And much more!

What are “items of extraordinary value’”?

Items of extraordinary value are items with a value of over $100. These might include furniture, jewelry, appliances, collector’s items, furs, antiques, art, china, silverware, and much more. We recommend purchasing moving insurance if you’re going to be moving any items of extraordinary value.

If I can’t move into my new place right away, what should I do?

If you’ve already ended your lease or sold your home but cannot move your items into your new property right away, we recommend placing your belongings in climate controlled storage. Noah’s Ark Moving and Storage provides all of our clients with high quality, fully climate controlled storage options for any length of time.
