Meeting The Neighbors

Transitioning to a new neighborhood can be daunting. It’s full of new faces and new street names. The old neighborhood haunts you used to know are gone and now you have to rediscover the ins and outs of your little town in Connecticut.

One of the first things you can do to make your move to Connecticut more comfortable is to meet your neighbors. After all, you are going to be living right next to them and across the street from them for the next few years at least. It would be awkward if you didn’t at least find out their names somehow.

But you’re shy.Or you’re not that good at introducing yourself and making new friends. What are some things you can do?

Go Outside

Sometimes it’s as simple as stepping out the door.Mow your lawn, plant some flowers, rake some leaves.Even get a book and bring some snacks out to relax. There will always be a neighbor who will walk right up to you and introduce themselves. They’ll probably give you some tips.Maybe it’ll be about landscaping or maybe it’ll be where the local watering hole is.Either, you’ve met your first neighbor.

Have A Party

If you’re the proactive type, why not throw a little housewarming bash?Get some cocktails and appetizers and you’re all set.Cocktail hour is the perfect time to host a gathering.Everyone is off of work and looking to unwind and relax. It’ll create a good conversation flow. And afterwards, everyone goes home for dinner so you don’t have to worry about food or how to get people to leave if they are staying too late.

Neighborhood Events

On the flip side, if you’re not really social enough to throw a party and engage with your neighbors, keep an eye out for events.Usually there is some neighborhood activity going on, whether it’s a get together at one of their houses or a block party.Put yourself out there.Talk to some new people. They’re probably more than happy to welcome you to the area and give you tips on the best places in town.

Gifts

Sometimes you just have to go out there and meet people. Most people love sweets and you can never go wrong with chocolate chip cookies.Bake a fresh batch and go door to door to introduce yourselves. It’s highly doubtful they’ll turn you down.Besides, would you really trust someone who doesn’t like chocolate chip cookies?
